Alaska Part 2: Luxury Adventure Cruises

Posted on 19 Jan 2011 in North America, Videos | 0 comments

Yesterday we featured four wilderness lodges in Alaska Part 1: Wilderness Lodges. Today we review two adventure cruise options that we hope will get you excited about Alaska and inspire you to start the planning process now.

Cruise Option #1: Lindblad/National Geographic Expeditions
Lindblad Expeditions traces its roots back to 1958 when Lars-Eric Lindblad founded Lindblad Travel. Sven-Olof Lindblad—Lars’ son—traveled extensively with his father and in 1979 created a maritime division of Lindblad Travel called Special Expeditions which later became known as Lindblad Expeditions. Lindblad has extensive experience operating small cruise ships all over the world (including Alaska) and is considered a pioneer in the adventure cruising industry.

In Alaska Lindblad operates twin expedition ships, National Geographic Sea Bird and National Geographic Sea Lion, each accommodating 62 guests in 31 outside cabins. Lindblad offers naturalist-lead hiking, kayaking, whale watching and nature viewing at its finest. Lindblad’s seasoned Alaska travel experts have logged hundreds of cruises and know all the hidden coves and narrow channels for the best wildlife viewing.

Cruise Option #2: American Safari Cruises
For a very intimate cruise experience consider American Safari Cruises—a small-ship adventure operator with three luxury yachts including the 36-guest Safari Explorer, the 22-guest Safari Quest and the 12-guest Safari Spirit. Staterooms have heated tile floors in all bathrooms, Tempur-Pedic memory foam mattress, flat screen TVs/DVDs and many have Jacuzzi tubs. Upper category cabins offer French balconies. The staff-to-client ratio of 1 to 2 ensures you will be well cared for during your cruise. American Safari Cruises offers on-board hot tub and sauna, yoga classes and complimentary massages (36-guest Safari Explorer only) as well as all meals and full open bar with premium spirits.

American Safari Cruises is the only cruise line that can free guests from the confines of the vessel while inside Glacier Bay to kayak and hike with its onboard Naturalists and a National Park Service Ranger due to a special concession allowing 2-day permits to the park. By offering kayaking directly from each ship, American Safari Cruises can offer an extremely intimate experience with wildlife unmatched by other cruise lines.

With shallow-draft vessels American Safari Cruises can literally take you where no other commercial cruise line can go to experience whales, bears, waterfalls, glaciers, bald eagles, otters, sea lions, porpoise and more.
